The goal and objective of the Wetland Mitigation Bank is to protect existing wetland, restore numerous classes of palustrine wetlands in an area which historically was a forested, scrub-shrub, emergent, and open-water wetland complex, and provide for significant improvement of wetland functions beyond existing conditions in a manner that contributes to the long-term functioning of the watershed. The goal is to provide replacement wetlands and essential aquatic functions, which are anticipated to be lost through authorized activities within the bank's service area.

WHO WE ARE
Valencia Wetlands Trust is a privately held company whose office is located in Sandpoint, Idaho. Our project site, a former Louisiana Pacific Lumber Mill, is just outside the city limits of Priest River, Idaho. We are the only approved "wetlands mitigation bank' in the State of Idaho, certified by, and under the direct supervision of the Walla Walla District of the US Army Corps of Engineers.

Our service area includes Northern Idaho from the Canadian border south to the Clearwater River. Easements with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the State of Idaho Department of Fish and Game have been placed on our project site.

WHAT WE DO
We provide public and private sectors with the opportunity to purchase wetland credits from our wetland mitigation bank to replace real property mitigation procedures required by the US Army Corps of Engineers. We can provide this opportunity by returning the former Louisiana Pacific Mill's 290 acre site to its original, pristine, wetland ecosystem.

In so doing we will see their return and protection of numerous native plants and animals, some of which have been designated "threatened" or "endangered." By enhancing the wetland productivity of our property, you have the opportunity to fully utilize your property.
Our success in the re-establishment of this ecosystem has been rewarded by the US Army Corps of Engineers by "credits" that can be sold to both public and private sectors.

HOW WE CAN HELP
When it becomes evident that on-site mitigation of damaged wetlands within your project is not cost effective or looks improbable, please contact us. We can provide wetland credits to replace the wetlands which are anticipated to be lost through the development of land.
The purchase of these credits, known as Mitigation Banking, streamlines the development of your property, usually at a less expensive cost than on-site mitigation or other more cumbersome and time draining methods.

An added benefit is that future liability for failures is taken care of by our wetland bank. We will be happy to answer questions that you, your wetland biologist or engineers may have about what we can do and how to work with the US Army Corps of Engineers.
